Three years ago

Three years ago at around 11 in the evening, I received one of the worst news anyone could ever hear. Dec. 31, 2011, I wrote this on my blog.

Death. A permanent way of leaving - saying goodbye. We all know we'll end up to this. All of us would die. It is better to be realistic than to be optimistic. But then again, thinking of this thought would be so difficult. People going apart from each other because of some circumstances is hard; how much more when one has to leave permanently and never come back? We don't own our lives. It is something borrowed; something precious that the  God gave us. Just a few minutes awhile ago, I was sitting in front of my computer when my cousin came.  When I saw her cry, I knew right then and there' something's wrong. Then she told me our grandfather is gone. 

Since the day my grandfather was sent to the hospital, he started to get weak. He was a strong man I must say, but then again, the pain from the operation and his fractured leg swallowed him.

I remember when I was younger, he would send us packages from the States. I would feel so excited every time a huge truck loaded with big boxes would come to our house. I remembered before, he bought me a bike. He told me not to let anyone borrow because it might get broken or something. One day I forgot about what he said and so I lend my bike to my friend. When he learned about it, he got mad and after that I grew fear in him.

Though I fear him, I still love him. I believe he is someone smart. He's deep too when it comes to thinking about life and religious stuffs. Though there were times when I get totally annoyed when he asks me to do this and that, somehow I regretted those times. I wished I could have just cherished those memories.

His last few days in the hospital were really piercing my heart. I just can't stand there seeing him in so much pain that is why I would just go out, hang around with friends and forget about everything. But when I would come and visit him in the hospital, I feel the pain once again. I know there was no escape. Every night I would pray to God and hoped that he could just take away the pain my grandfather is bearing, knowing there care only two ways for that to happen; one, for him to get healed, and the other, for him to say goodbye.

He was a father, a grandfather, a soldier, a hero. He may have his short comings too, but I guess its the reality - the reality that everyone has our own flaws - flaws that molded us to what kind of person we are.

Farewell, Luisito Batongbakal

Just a few hours ago, me and my friends went to the airport to say our goodbyes to our dear Korean friend, Minhak "Louise" Park a.k.a Luisito Batongbakal.

Minhak has been in the country for about six months only, yet we have come to love this "buang" guy because of his silly antics. 

I remember the very first time I saw him was during our Communication Research class, last June. He took the seat beside me, which is actually Joie's seat (since she left her bag right there). And since I didn't want to end up sitting beside someone whom I cannot have my usual chat, I decided to transfer at the back, where Suzmita and the others are sitting.

Anyway, I really thought I would get off the hook right away, but I was wrong. I was assigned to be his partner for an assignment, and I have no choice but to bare all those jokes from my classmates not until.....

Okay so here it is... the MinSu loveteam! (I really want to share some videos, but the internet connection's not cooperating. Huhuhu)

Anyway, Minhak was also my groupmate for our research. I commend him for doing his best for our research even if he is having a hard time catching up with us due to our language barrier. 

I'm really happy with the improvement of his English. I actually have a video recording where King and I were teaching him some tongue twisters (I hope I could post that video too).

He really loves taking selfies using my phone. He's buang, byuntae, and weird.

I hope I could update this blog again, soon. I really have so many things to share, but my brain and internet connection is not working as of this moment. I need sleeeeep. 

Reply 1997

Since my last semester in college has began, I've already been feeling this "pressure" to graduate and to find a decent job. But before anything else, I would just like to share this piece of thought I have in mind. 

Actually, this has got to do with one of my favorite Korean drama entitled: Reply 1997.

Anyway, here it is. Reply 1997 surprisingly caught my attention even though it wasn't really a famous KDrama, unlike the Heirs of My Love From the Star. Perhaps its because of the good reviews which I got from my friends, who actually wasn't able to finish the entire series (since this was release about a year or two ago and they are just waiting for it to be download in torrent). But anyway, last summer I decided to download the entire series, and I swear it was worth the wait. I love every bit of the drama; from the story line, to the characters, down to the angles and shots used. And what's most interesting about it is that, it doesn't only revolve around first loves, but it also depicts the tight bond of a family and true meaning of friendship.

Going back to the story. Reply 1997 is a story of six individuals who have been friends since high school. The first scene of the series shows the life of these individuals who are already on their 30s, at their high school reunion. As the story progressed, the answers to their questions on their teenage years will be unfold. And one more thing, the way the story teller tells the story is very tricky, which made it more exciting.

Okay, I really suck at story telling so maybe I should just share some interesting facts about the characters and others, this would be better.

This is Jeong Eunji who portrays the lead role, Shi Won. She's actually a member of a Korean girl group called, "A-Pink" and she has also starred alongside with Kim Bum in another KDrama, The Winter that Wind Blows. So yeah, she is Shi Won, a daughter of the head coach of baseball team in Busan. She is a sadist (as what I have observed) and a hard headed 18-year old girl (that's how she is portrayed). She is a huge fan of H.O.T (the first ever Korean boy group, which actually exist in real life), and she loves writing a fan fiction.

What I really love about this character is that we almost have the same interest in life (except for the fangirling a boy group; I prefer James Reid). Somehow, I can see myself in her as she found her way to college through her fanfictions. I remember I began writing fictions when I started fangirling with James Reid (I know its corny). Anyway, that became a passion which actually turned out to be my gate pass to college (just like what happened to Shi Won. I chose to take up Mass Com because I learned to love writing, especially fiction, and it has become a part of me now. Shi Won's character became a script writer after years, and right now, I thought of becoming a script writer too (but with a high pay though). So yeah, I just thought Shi Won and I have the same...  path, to become a writer.

So this is Seo In Guk, one of my Korean crushes next to Jo In Sung. In Guk was actually the winner of a Korean singing show (which I forgot the name and I'm too lazy to search it up). He has actually portrayed quite a number of roles already. Anyway, he plays the role of Yoon Jae, Shi Won's smart and super cool best friend. He is considered as the number one student in their school, opposite to Shi Won who is at the bottom of the list. Yoon Jae falls in love with Shi Won, but was trapped by the fact that his older brother is also in love with the same woman. 

One more thing. Aside from the sweet moments of the characters, you should also not miss the ever funny scenes, especially the goat sound effects. And since I'm really a fan of this KDrama, I came across this fact that they have inside jokes in it. The most obvious one (not really obvious for me) is the fact that Eun Ji-won who portrays the role of Hak- Chan, is actually a member of Sechs Kies - the rival boy group of H.O.T. In one episode, there was a scene where the male characters were teasing Hak-Chan that he looks like Ji-won.
